About

Gazi University is one of the few universities whose history dates back to the 1920s. (click for the history of Gazi University with photograph). Right after the declaration of the Turkish Republic, it was decided to establish an institute with Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and his friends’ initiative. This decision resulted in the establishment of the 'Secondary Teacher Training School and Civility Institute' in 1926. The institute started its educational activities in the building which is now used as the Rectorate Building. The architect of our building was Mimar Kemaleddin. In 1929, the name of the institute was changed to 'Gazi Secondary Teacher Training School and Civility Institute' and it served under this name for many years. Nowadays, Gazi University is one of the the largest educational institution in the Turkey. 

'Philosophy and Related Fields Teaching Department' is one of the three department of the Faculty of Education in Turkey. Also the department has a unique structure which is apart from all department combining philosophy, sociology, psychology, logic and education.

The structure of study programmes follows the European Union’s Bologna Declaration, studies are divided into a 4-year B.A. programme (240 ECTS) and a 2-year MA programme (120 ECTS). Graduates of the MA programme achieve fully-qualified status as teachers. Our department guarantees general educational preparation for students in almost all study programs offered by the Faculty of Education.

The main objective of the Philosophy and Related Fields Teaching Department at the Faculty of Education, Gazi University in Turkey is promote research and teaching both at training scientists and researchers in the fields of philosophy, sociology, psychology, logic and education.

Studies are addressed to those interested in theoretical and philosophical superstructure field of philosophy and social sciences. And promote studies and teaching in a wide variety of disciplines related to philosophy, sociology, psychology, logic and education.

Our programme include some compulsory subjects credits. These include philosophy, logic, sociology and psychology. Our department offers courses in a variety of related and inter-disciplinary fields, including: history of education, research methods and techniques, social-cultural changing, globalisation and education, values education and thinking skills. As well as theoretical courses, students must take applied courses for the teaching profession that are required to take the necessary knowledge and skills. Such as; statistics, material development in the field, personal and professional development of related fields of philosophy teachers, measuring and evaluation in related fields of philosophy teaching. In addition to compulsory courses, there are elective courses that students may select for their interest.
